Pincer Grasp and Clothespins

The Pincer Grasp is what allows humans to use their thumbs and index fingers to pick up small items.  Tweezers and even traditional clothespins offer strengthening of the Pincer Grasp.

Next time you hang laundry, grab a few extra clothespins for your Bloom 'N Grow student to pick up items like cotton balls or small toys.  We use colorful puff balls and organize them by color or number.

There are so many ways for your learner to hone new skills - many of them are so inexpensive... and FUN!
Got it!

Bears!

February will be such an exciting month - we get to learn about BEARS!
Bears HIBERNATE.  They eat such a BIG meal and then sleep all winter long.
To start the month, we read a book about a bear who couldn't sleep and then we used our big bear feet to "skate" on bear paws.  What fun!

Shadow science

Will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow?  We're so EXCITED to find out!
We learned all about Groundhogs today - where they live, what they eat and what an important role they play in determining our winter (or spring) schedule 😀
We created special shadow art using a flashlight and just our hands. Bloom 'N Grow students promised to look for shadows today - be sure to be on the hunt with them!

Play Doh

Ahh, Play Doh.  Such a staple of childhood toys.  Did you know, though, that your Bloom 'N Grow student's hand-eye coordination, pre-writing skills, fine motor skills, creativity, imagination and even social skills are developed and strengthened using Play Doh?
We use Play Doh while we learn new letters - forming the letter shapes.  We also allow for plenty of free play using Play Doh - it's such an important learning tool, as simple as it may seem. We love Play Doh!

Winter at Bloom 'N Grow

Even though the weather is COLD outside, we're enjoying winter inside at Bloom 'N Grow!

After reading Jan Brett's classic, "The Mitten," we played a Mitten graphing game and then explored all the parts of our new, "snowy" sensory table.

Spin to see how many animals will fit in OUR mitten!
