Practicing Forming Letters
Forming letters is hard work and takes a lot of practice. Here we are working on writing the letters in our names. First, we trace the letters with our fingers and then go over with a crayon using the same motions.

Instruments
Singing and playing musical instruments with some of our 8th grade helpers! Each instrument is used a little bit differently and they all sound so cool! We are learning to take turns and to work together as a group...while creating a good rhythm :)

Exploring A Pumpkin
Exploring the inside of our Fall pumpkin!! We had a chance to cut open a pumpkin to see what was inside. We found seeds and lots of "strings" (pulp). After observing the pumpkin we found out that the stem of a pumpkin is very rough and the outside of the pumpkin is smooth. The inside was "sticky and squishy" and some friends thought it didn't smell good.

Fall Art
Trying out different ways to create art!! Painting with Pinecones and gourds was a fun hands on activity. Picking up each item, dipping it into paint and pressing it against paper was not only fun to see the different marks that could be made but helps strengthen our hand muscles. The mini pumpkin was a bit heavy - we needed two hands to use this one! We also made some "Magic Pumpkin" art. Using coffee filters, markers and water each student created a unique design. The magic happened when we sprayed water onto our marker design....the colors started to move around!!

A day on the Farm!
This month we took our very first field trip to Green Meadows Farm. It was a huge success! The weather was great and everyone had a fun time. We had a farmer to guide us around the farm and tell us about all of the animals. We were able to see many animals and could touch and even brush some of them. Holding the tiny baby kittens was definitely a favorite among all of the students.
The highlights of our trip (besides riding on a BIG school bus!) was going on a bumpy hayride around the pumpkin patch, riding on a pony and getting to pick out a pumpkin to take home!
Back at school, we took a vote to see how many friends enjoyed picking a pumpkin or going on the hayride better...picking the perfect pumpkin was the winner!

Play and Learn with Playdoh
We LOVE playdoh in Preschool! It is enjoyable to play with and there are many added benefits to squishing it between our fingers. Working with playdoh is great for encouraging the imagination, promoting play and enhancing creativity. Squishing, kneading, rolling and flattening the dough with fingers is a great way to strengthen hand muscles to develop fine motor skills...but most of all it's so much fun!!

Painting with MARBLES!
Creating artwork using paint, marbles and a box is FUN! This process is enjoyable, exciting and the end result is always very unique. The students were able to let marbles roll around through paint, onto a leaf print, by shaking a box around. While they were shaking (and jumping!) I asked the question: "I wonder what is happening inside of the box?" - Most of the children were able to say that the marbles were moving around. One student said "the marbles are making a mess" - and he was right, but the mess was contained inside of the box!
